Pour a little gasoline, start a fire...
My husband and I went out last night with another guy from work and his wife. First we stopped by Outback Steakhouse. Appetizers were cheese fries topped with bacon. Dinner for me was chicken, topped with cheese and bacon with a honey mustard dipping sauce. I was heavily fortified with grease and fat, as I finished almost all my meal because I couldn't do the doggie bag thing. Then we headed downtown, to the Terminal Bar. It had a rumpus room feel - like someone's basement had been cleared out to make room for a bar and a small stage. I spied an empty box of Sminroff Ice against the wall and ordered one. The bartender commented on the fact that he's had them for quite a while, no one else orders them. I'm just not a beer girl, but I was among the beer crowd.
Rob The Carpenter played first. Not bad. The lead singer was unintelligable at times, and had some strange, leg-jerking dance moves. The drummer was amazing, and the other guys I didn't pay a lot of attention to. They mentioned Joy Division in a song. Points for that from my husband.
Then Larry set up. It was so damn cool. See, I've been to a couple concerts, but going to a bar/club to see a band play was a new experience for me. Sitting about 15 feet back from the stage, we were blasted by the guitars, and you could feel the vibrations coming through the floor, in your chest... I smoked too much and drank too much, but was spared drunken foolishness due to my hearty dinner. They worked their way through the set (rocking everyone's asses off, might I add), and when it was over Jack joined us at our table to say hello. Everyone offers up their praise, and all I could say was "That shit fucking rocked." I was classy, as you can well imagine. Then the conversation turned to live orcs in the office. Don't ask.
Some other band set up afterwards and launched into a funk-ish vibe that totally didn't fit with our mood, so we headed out. Goofy Mooninite talk was had, and I staggered in the door and passed out in my bed at 2 am. I'm so old and uncool, but it was fun. They're playing 4 more times next month... we may hit another show. Oh, to live the rock n' roll lifestyle.
